I now hate sweaty sports bra selfies more than political rants. Congratulations Beachbody. You have made surface an entirely new annoyance level within me that was previously undiscovered. I unfollow BeachBody “coaches” so rapidly that I'm risking a serious finger sprain each time I scroll through my Newsfeed.
Shakeology I find costs twice as much as other protein powders on the market and, from my limited research, it doesn't seem much different. It does have essential vitamins and minerals and is lower in fat and higher in calcium and iron than other protein shakes I will admit. But what are all those other ingredients? I'm skeptical of a powder that the FDA doesn't approve, which means I am skeptical of all protein powder. In fact, the FDA doesn't approve any supplements at all so it's not just Shakeology. They do apparently set guidelines and regulations for the manufacturing of supplements but do not require approval for its sale on the market. It gives me an uneasy feeling anytime a company strongly promotes a product they cannot 100% back up. I have never tried Shakeology but I have tried a pea and brown rice protein powder (chocolate duh). I have to say it's a great substitute or filler between meals and tastes really good. Beachbody has a lot of information on their website regarding protein shakes for consumers should they seek it out. I have mixed feelings about protein shakes because I just can't ever seem to find enough information about them to completely be okay with the mystery ingredients.

When Beachbody coaches push Shakeology or post pictures drinking the latest latte I feel like the world has gone mad. Mostly because they are just pushing a fad diet on all of us with little or no background in nutrition. I wonder if they know what lycium berries or yacon are. I feel they are taking advantage of naive clients desperate to shed weight. I have seen countless promotions for Shakeology and the diet benefits but I've never seen a detailed informative FB post on what we are ingesting. They've already had to remove some ingredients because of a link to some neurological disease they overlooked initially. So that means the coaches are pretty much just blindly following whatever the company is choosing to sell.
As a nurse giving someone a medication for example, I know the drug. No, I didn’t make it. But I do know the side effects, the interactions with other medications, the warnings, the precautions, the composition, the drug classification because I am responsible for putting something into someone's body! So what is in this shake? If you can’t answer, don’t try selling it to me.
Portion Control Containers
They are so cute right? Whoever decided to give people color coded Tupperware was a marketing genius. Portion control is my biggest nightmare each meal. There's a hormone responsible for telling your body you are full. I think mine died. I stop eating when there's no more food. Like in the house. I think it is an idea appealing to those looking to lose a lot of weight quickly. People who struggle with weight loss in any form could benefit from a little guidance. BeachBody posts truly amazing transformations to make you feel like hey, if they can do it so can I. But I think it's a short term solution. And I am skeptical because any diet is a fad. Shouldn't we just be teaching people how to eat healthy and make informative choices? Measuring and obsessing is not how we are built to eat and live. It's not natural. It dumbs down basic nutrition and is solely based on how much you weigh. How about meeting with a nutritionist who can work with you as an individual to eat healthier? Our bodies are all so different, our tastes different, our lifestyles different. I would not be able to sustain the Beachbody fad as a lifestyle.
Keep it on Facebook Coaches
I'm all about promoting self-confidence and acceptance and being proud of your accomplishments. But don't make me feel bad eating like a normal person. You are the kind of people I avoid going to dinner with. I don't want to be judged by my meal choice. I worked hard today and I deserve a burger. There's no way that half a garden salad filled you up. Yes I want beer instead of lemon water. Life was meant to be enjoyed and I enjoy food. That's never going to change. Leave your diet recommendations to your posts unless I ask for your advice.
21 Day Fix Extreme, Insanity, Hard Corps
These seem intense. I would definitely do one of these videos, especially if I didn't have time to make it to the gym.

This is where my level of intensity starts to rise. Stop reading if I've offended you, because this will put you over the edge. Coaches! Stop giving me uncredited fitness advice. Know your scope of practice. You are outside of it. If I wanted health and fitness advice I will ask my trainers who have degrees, certifications and 13+ years in the health and fitness industry. And just because you quit your job to join the pyramid scheme please don’t post about how the rest of us using our degrees should do the same. You sound ridiculous.
Closing Remarks (driving my point into the ground)
I am not an expert or pretend to be one. These are my thoughts and opinions with a little bit of research.
It's a struggle in this world to feel truly beautiful and love our bodies because of society's expectations. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin. If Beachbody coaches wanted you to feel comfortable in your own skin, why do we have to stare at their's all the time? They continually push and push their own image to make you feel so bad about yours that you will sign up for their class. Is that not the most pathetic, unprofessional way to gain business? If fitness trainers in the community constantly posted videos of their cut bodies would that make the general public want to join their gym? No! You would think they were a big d bag.
I'm quick to lose respect for these people because I have friends who have given up everything they have to start their own gym because they have a passion for helping people. They put their blood, sweat and tears into their business and they are out there in the community, motivating and inspiring us every day to reach a form of healthy that is good for us. To reach goals we set for ourselves, not ones set by a half-naked person across the Internet who can't be in the same room as a birthday cake during their 21 day fix. My coaches aren't coaching us from the comforts of their basement. They are watching to make sure our form is right. They are helping us work safely with injuries. They are in our face, by our side, fighting the fight with us because there's nowhere else they'd rather be.
Facebook coaches truly have an impact on their customers. Customers believe in that leadership and are desperate for change in their lives. I hope the coaches are serving clients from the heart and not a percentage of their sales.
